Investigators from the Old Harbour Police Station are treating as murder the death of Christine Asphall, whose body was found lying down in her bed at her Spring Village, St Catherine home on February 24.
Asphall, 53, was discovered at about six o’clock in the evening by her daughter, who was returning from work.
The mother of three children, one of whom is renowned former Jamaica and West Indies ‘A’ wicketkeeper batsman Keith Hibbert, is a native of the community in which she grew up.
According to a family source, Asphall died from multiple fractures of the skull. Initially, it was thought that she may have died suddenly but on closer examination it appears that she was attacked and bludgeoned to death.
When contacted a distraught Hibbert, said he was at school when he received the tragic news. He briefly spoke about how his mother raised himself and his other siblings without a father, while she was employed at the Jamaica Broilers chicken factory in the community.
