Rudyard ‘Kippy’ Mears, the People’s National Party (PNP) candidate for St Catherine South West, has added his voice against comments made by political rival Everald Warmington who characterized Member of Parliament Lisa Hanna as “Jezebel”.

Warmington made the comment during Tuesday’s sitting of Parliament, drawing the wrath of several government MPs.

The firebrand Jamaica Labour Party MP, who is known to make unsavoury remarks in the past, would later retract the statement following the intervention of House Speaker Lloyd B Smith.

Despite his retraction, however, it hasn’t prevented many persons, particularly those aligned to the PNP, from chastising the Member of Parliament.

In a release to the press this evening Mears, who will challenge Warmington whenever general elections are held this year, says the Parliament should suspend and censure the MP.

“I was appalled and outraged when I heard the utterance of MP Everald Warmington in the House of Parliament yesterday, when he addressed his fellow Parliamentarian, the Honourable Lisa Hannah as a Jezebel. What was he thinking and doesn’t he respect our women including his female family members?

“Myself and the constituents of St. Catherine South West are still in shock and so on their behalf, I wish to apologize to the Honourable Minister, the members of the House (of Representatives) and to Jamaica for such an inexcusable display of insolence by Member of Parliament Everald Warmington,” said Mears.

Mears said comrades in the constituency also note “with further shock, the inaction by way of a lack of condemnation from the JLP female members of parliament at the sitting”.

“Are they comfortable with this kind of behaviour?” he asked.

He said such disrespectful behaviour towards women by Warmington must not be tolerated and is calling on constituents to use their voting rights to deny the MP a return to Gordon House.

“I call upon all well thinking residents of the constituency and our women in particular, never to support Warmington as their representative to Gordon House, to again disrespect our women,” he declared.
