21-y-o charged in $2 million Old Harbour ganja bust
He his Halford Turner, a labourer of White Marl, Moores District, Clarendon.
Turner, and another man who the police are vigorously pursuing, has been charged with possession, dealing, trafficking and taking steps to export ganja.
He was formally charged late Tuesday after he was chased and held by cops from the Old Harbour operational support team (OST).
Turner and his accomplice were travelling together in a silver Toyota Probox motor car when the police signaled them to stop upon exiting Lennonsville Road and turn onto West Street.
They disobeyed the police’s command and sped away in a westerly direction towards Bodles. A high speed chase ensued, however, upon reaching the entrance of the toll road in the vicinity of Port Esquivel both men alighted from the vehicle and tried to escape. But the cops were right on their tails and managed to hold onto Turner while the other suspect escaped into the bushes nearby.
The vehicle was then searched during which the police discovered seven feed bags stocked with compressed ganja. The weed has an estimated street value of two million Jamaican dollars.
Turner is scheduled to appear in the St Catherine Parish Court, Old Harbour Circuit early next week.
