8-y-o ‘did not kill herself’, relatives refute police’s theory
A woman claiming to be the aunt of the deceased is categorically denying that the child committed suicide.
“My niece did not kill herself. People have some remorse for her families. Please do not just read and jump to conclusions without knowing your facts. My niece died. It was a freak accident. She was playing like she always like to do, climb and have her fun by herself, sadly we couldn't save her. But it was an accident. My family and I are going through something atm (at the moment) we never thought was possible. This is the most painful experience we ever encounter, so please before you speak sh** condolence is good enough; and thanks to all who read and wish us well,” wrote Latoya Chin Brown in response to comments posted on Old Harbour News Facebook page.
Brown did not give any further details as to how the child got to the point of being hanged.
The aunt further added that her “niece would never do that (kill herself). She's too loving”.
Another woman, Lisa Montae, who also indicated that she’s a blood relative, said “my sister is a great mother and this child come from a great family”.
“My niece didn't just say ‘you know what, am going to hang myself’. She was playing. What happen was an tragic accident but these news people want (to) make it seem like it's because my sister spoke to her is why she is dead,” she adds.
Their comments contradict the official, albeit preliminary, police report, which stated that Jasmine’s death is being treated as a “case of suspected suicide”.
In a brief report from the police it stated that Jasmine was “found at the back of her house hanging from a piece of cord which was tied to an unfinished (concrete) column”.
This was shortly after she “was spoken to by her mom about a tablet when she started crying,' the police stated.
Jasmine was rushed to the hospital where she was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Old Harbour News has reached to the family to get further information on their version of the heart-breaking incident but is still awaiting a response.
