Bomb hoax forces closure of OHHS, other schools

A bomb threat, which turned out to be a hoax, has forced the closure of several schools, including Old Harbour High.

However, the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) issued an advisory that the threat is a false alarm, stating: “Investigators are urging school officials and other members of the public to remain calm, as preliminary investigations indicate that bomb threats received at several schools are a hoax. More information will be provided as soon as possible.”

From about midday Old Harbour News began receiving several calls from concerned parents and citizens regarding the now viral gossip, as the institutions affected announced their immediate closure to safeguard life and property should such a rumour proved to be true.

Several schools received a bomb threat via email Deputy Commissioner of Police Fitz Bailey told reporters afterwards, while SSP Christopher Phillips, who is commander in charge at the St Catherine South Police Division, added that all emergency respond units were swiftly engaged and dispatched to the respective schools.

In addition to Old Harbour High, the police stated that the Immaculate Conception, Denbigh, Greater Portmore, Lennon and William Knibb in Trelawny were also threatened, causing management suspend classes for the rest of the day.
