The officer was released from hospital today with only minor cuts and bruises, following the horrific incident that occurred just after 8:00 p.m. last night along Old Harbour Road in the Church Pen area.
According to eyewitness accounts, the policeman was travelling eastbound in a white Toyota Axio when the vehicle suddenly veered off the roadway and slammed violently into a wall near the Church Pen bridge, opposite to the cemetery.
The force of the impact was so severe that the mangled wreckage of the car was left split into two halves, drawing a large crowd of shocked onlookers who gathered at the scene in disbelief.
“We heard a loud bang and rushed over. When we saw the car broken in two, we thought the worst,” one eyewitness recounted. “Nobody expected the driver to come out of that alive.”
Despite the catastrophic damage to the vehicle, the officer was swiftly pulled from the wreckage by bystanders. He was rushed to hospital, where medical staff treated him for minor lacerations and bruises. He was kept overnight for observation as a precautionary measure but was discharged this morning in stable condition.
The officer is expected to make a full recovery and return to his regular duties shortly, pending a final medical review by his physician.
Meanwhile, the Old Harbour police traffic unit has indicated that a comprehensive report on the circumstances surrounding the crash is still being finalised. Investigators have not yet disclosed what may have caused the officer to lose control of the vehicle.
For now, residents and colleagues alike are simply breathing a collective sigh of relief, marvelling at what many are calling a true miracle on Old Harbour Road.
