COVID-19: JPS pledges $1 million and activates emergency plan
At the same the time, the island’s sole electricity provider has activated its emergency operations plan to help minimize the risk of spreading the virus.
“JPS has always been an integral part of the social and economic fabric of Jamaica, as well as a driver and facilitator of progress and development. As a member of this national family, it is an honour to extend assistance at this time,” said president and chief executive officer Emanuel DaRosa, speaking at the company’s head office today.
DaRosa said with approximately 1600 persons within is employ islandwide, the light and power company remains committed to offering the highest standard of service and care at this time.
“As the provider of an essential service that fuels the economy and powers the daily lives of Jamaicans, JPS has been closely monitoring the spread of the coronavirus, COVID-19,” he said.
“We recognize the importance of electricity to your daily activities, and would like to assure our customers that the JPS team will do everything we can to provide you with the best service possible during what has become a nationally challenging time for us. To this end, we have activated our emergency operations plan, in response to the classification of COVID-19 as a pandemic and the identification of coronavirus cases in Jamaica.
The safety and wellbeing of our team members and customers remain our top priority, even as we take the necessary steps to provide consistent service to our customers.”
There have been eight confirmed cases of the coronavirus in Jamaica as at March 13, 2020.
