Damaged fibre optic cable disrupts telecom services in southwest St. Catherine

A damaged fibre optic cable has been identified as the cause of widespread telecommunications disruptions affecting several communities in southwest St. Catherine, including sections of Old Harbour to Gutters.

Since Thursday, customers of telecommunications provider FLOW have experienced significant outages, primarily impacting internet, cable, and data services. 

 

Frustration has mounted among affected residents and businesses, with many reporting prolonged loss of connectivity. While some customers have noted slight improvements in service, FLOW technicians are working to fully restore services by later this Old Harbour News has been advised. 

 

Despite the ongoing disruptions, FLOW has yet to issue an official statement addressing the issue, further aggravating affected customers. Some residents have resorted to using mobile data plans as an alternative, but unstable connections have hampered their ability to stay online. 

 

FLOW technicians were seen conducting repairs along Marlie Avenue in Marlie Gardens, in front of the Old Harbour Health Centre, where the damaged cable is believed to be located. The exact cause of the damage remains unclear, but restoration efforts are actively underway. 

 

As technicians rush to resolve the issue, impacted customers are urged to remain patient while awaiting full service restoration. Old Harbour News will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as more information becomes available.
