The police have confirmed the incident, which they said happened around 3:30 pm, but are unable to provide details at present as investigators are still at the scene. A joint para military operation is currently underway in the community with several individuals and homes subject to searches.

The Old Harbour Bay native hails from the enclaves of Settlement and 13th Street in southern Old Harbour.

In July 2019, the artiste whose given name at birth is DeShawn Tavin Hill, escaped unhurt a drive-by shooting while performing at a video shoot in the town of Old Harbour.

A police officer in plain clothes at the time challenged the gunmen, shooting one fatally while the others escaped.

Only two days ago Kashmar shared on his official Facebook account with more than 1,000 followers with himself counting out several US dollar bank notes, while on September 19 he posted on TikTok a five seconds clip saying “kill me dead mi a choppa to how mi av a choppa event”.

As news of his death hit the streets, some persons have written on the artiste’s social media pages offering their condolences.

The talented artiste, who has 39,000 followers on Instagram and some 18,000 subscribers to his official YouTube channel, is known for numerous songs such as Pretty Little Freak, Backshot, Elevate and Echo. His latest single titled Outside a Keep, has racked up more than 9,000 views on YouTube since its official release a month ago.

In a further update, the police have provided very little clear details surrounding the assassination of Hill, except to say that they responded to calls from residents who heard “loud explosions sounding like gunshots”. The vague preliminary report further stated that Hill’s bullet-riddled body had gunshot wounds to the head, upper torso and leg.

Several theories regarding the possibility for The Avery resident’s death have been making the rounds, but the police are yet to establish any motive at this moment.
