Since Saturday afternoon last, thousands of residents have been without the precious commodity.

However, in a release late this morning, the NWC explained that facility “is out of operation as a result of a defective pump, resulting in disruption of water supply to customers served by this system”.

The utility company added that its “maintenance team is working to have the issue resolved and water supply restored by Tuesday, November 21, 2023”.

The affected areas are: Bushy Park, Spring Village, Island Farm, Nightingale Grove, Nightingale Grove Farms (Five Acres), Round Wood, High House, Lloyd’s Pen, and Gutters.

The last few days have been miserable for these residents who had to endure the absence of electricity and water during the passage of a tropical cyclone south of the island that caused flooding, landslides and downed power lines.

Electricity service was restored during the wee hours of Friday night into Saturday morning which enabled the restoration of water being served to the communities.

But as residents scurry to prepare for the week ahead, the NWC pump station in Spring Village went offline about 2:00 pm Saturday.

Affected residents informed Old Harbour News that many children have not attended school today due to the lack of potable water.

And to add to their frustration, they will have to do so without the commodity for at least another day.
