District constable charged with introducing contraband in prison

A district constable (DC) has been charged with introducing contraband in a penile institution.

The accused is 34-year-old Newton Braham of Lucas Road, Kingston 2 address.

According to a November 2 report by the police at about 7:30 am Braham entered a check point at the Horizon Adult Remand Centre situated on Spanish Road in Kingston, where the contents of a parcel he had was searched.

Upon closer examination of the items in Braham’s presence “vegetable matter resembling ganja was found,” the report stated.

The police were then summoned and following series of questioning, the DC was taken to the Denham Town Police Station where formal charges were laid.

Investigators say Braham will be given a court date at the earliest possible time.
