East Street Transportation Park to commence despite incompletion
Workmen were observed adding the final touches to crucial areas of the park when Old Harbour News visited the facility this afternoon.
The park will facilitate public passenger operators that ply the Old Harbour to Gutters, Spring Village, Spanish Town and downtown Kingston routes, as well as parking for the public.
Owned and managed by the St Catherine Municipal Corporation, the East Street transportation centre was forcibly relocated to the Old Harbour Market district after the proprietor decided against renewing its lease, established in 2002, with the local government authority.
The Council had until the end of September to vacate the property situated across from the Old Harbour Post Office but found itself behind schedule to complete the new site on time.
At this stage operations will begin without any asphaltic concrete being laid, while commuters are likely to be left to the elements, as work on the waiting area is yet to begin.
Old Harbour News was unable to ascertain a timeline for the completion of the park.
