A retired soldier was shot dead by unknown assailants in the community of Old Harbour Glades in the wee hours of this morning.
He has been identified as 69-year-old Clifford Edwards, whose licensed 9mm Smith and Wesson pistol was stolen by his attackers.
According to preliminary report about 12:45 am Edwards, who was employed as a private security guard, was attacked by armed men in front of his home on Ocean Crescent after disembarking from a taxi.
Investigators are yet to establish a motive for his killing.
News of the murder of Edwards has left many residents and friends in shock.
They described the former Jamaica Defence Force army man as a wonderful and loving individual whose death has left them with an awful feeling which will take some time to dissipate.
He was very involved in the mission through the Jamaica Ex-Soldiers Association to assist former members of the army who have fallen on hard times or in need to general assistance.
At an event at UP Park Camp in 2018, Edwards called on past members to join the association to help retirees who have been struggling.
