The incident happened about 7:30 am, police from the Old Harbour traffic unit confirmed.

It caused a major pile up in traffic stretching several miles east and west bound of the accident site.

Four of the six persons involved in the crash suffered injuries not considered life threatening, the police informed.

According to the police a white motor car heading towards Old Harbour collided with a truck coming from the opposite direction. The car spun several times in the road while the truck whirled about, hit the embankment and overturned on its side. At the same time a van slammed into the back of trailer truck heading westward after the truck driver stopped suddenly to avoid crashing into the spinning lorry coming towards it.

Some persons were observed carting away with animal feed spilled from the overturned truck, which Old Harbour News understands had just left the HiPro Feed Mill.

There was also an oil spill as a result of the crash which caused a police officer to fall from his motorbike, one alleged eyewitness told Old Harbour News.

Firefighters were able to address the oil spill before normalcy on the busy road way was restored about 12 noon.

The massive traffic congestion is bound to reignite concerns of a viable alternate route along that section of the Church Pen area of Old Harbour Road, to lessen the impact of such incidents.
