Golding tipped to excel in new role
Golding, a Justice of the Peace, for more than two decades, was recently sworn in by Governor-General Sir Patrick Allen as Custos Rotulorum of the parish, replacing the retired Reverend Jeffery McKenzie who served for six years.
Reacting to the appointment of her parishioner, Justice of the Peace Audrey Maragh, said: "Mrs. Golding has been an ardent and long serving member in the parish of St. Catherine and in particular Old Harbour. Her years of dedication to her people has more than qualify her for the position of custos for St. Catherine. I am confident that she will make an excellent custos while being an asset to that office. I support her and wish her well."

The Old Harbour native has been giving yeoman service to her community for much of her adult life. As a community stalwart, Golding is among the architects of social development and human empowerment through numerous initiative, while serving on many a school boards and civic committees.
Businesswoman and Justice of the Peace Mahalia Watson offered "heartiest congratulations" to Golding and is confident her colleague will do an excellent job in her new role.
"As a member of the SW Zone, I am highly confident that Justice Golding will deliver excellent and exceptional service and make a profound and lasting impact within and without the parish of St. Catherine."
Affirmation as custos of St Catherine for the diminutive but towering influencer has also come from all quarters, namely the South St Catherine Chamber of Commerce, the community development committees (CDCs), the church, Lions Club of Old Harbour, among other groups and individuals.
As Custos of the parish, Golding is the Governor-General’s representative at various events that promote the rule of law, public order and civic pride.
Also falling within the ambit of her office’s mandate is the responsibility of recommending and swearing-in Justices of the Peace and for supervising the execution of their legislative functions.
