Julian Robinson: PNP needs more Adrian Samuda
That’s the view of Julian Robinson, former PNP general secretary, who spoke admirably of the consistent level of dedication demonstrated by the businessman who is the party’s councillor candidate for the Old Harbour North Division.
Since the 36 year-old Samuda entered representational politics two years ago he has been on the ground, connecting with people in the division through numerous initiatives in primarily education, sport and entrepreneurism.
He has utilised the medium of social media to good effect to raise awareness and highlight the plight of residents in the communities in a division he was born and raised in.
This he continues to do with much fervour despite the difficult period the party now finds itself in at the moment ostensibly arising from a contentious leadership battle that saw Mark Golding emerge as its new leader.
And for Robinson this is something worth highlighting because at the height of a tumultuous phase for the party, Samuda continues to find creative ways, in spite of his own personal struggles, to inspire constituents in the division.
“I see the work he’s doing as a candidate not yet elected and that is why I am here, to give him support so that he can be the councillor for Old Harbour North, because him is a good yute,” the St Andrew South Eastern Member of Parliament told partisan supporters at the Davis Primary School.
“Straight up him is a good yute and politics needs people like him,” added Robinson, the opposition spokesperson on finance in the shadow cabinet.
Robinson said he too has been inspired and equally amazed by the Kaluga Kafe boss’ willingness to share his difficult journey to become a businessman, having a young family to take care of while working in the political field.
“When you look at what he has done so far just as a representative [and] him no get elected yet,” he said.
“Whether him a deliver water, whether him a deliver tablets, I don’t know how him deliver all of those things and has managed to keep his business afloat.
“The PNP need more Adrian Samuda.”
Robinson was speaking at the PNP Old Harbour North Divisional Conference on June 12, 2022.
