Life imprisonment for fish vendor killer
Inside the Home Circuit Court yesterday, 22-year-old Corey Walters was sentenced by Justice Leighton Pusey on charges of murder and illegal possession of firearm and ammunition in relation to the daring daylight killing of Coleman.
On the charge of illegal possession of firearm and ammunition Justice Pusey sentenced Walters, a mechanic of Johnson Pen, Spanish Town, St Catherine, to 15 years behind bars.
However, the sentences will run concurrently which means he must serve a minimum of 243 months in prison before being paroled.
Coleman, 51, was shot dead by Walters while at the Old Harbour Bay fishing beach on February 15, 2022.
Within a month, Johnson was arrested and charged by detectives attached to the Old Harbour Police CIB after providing a caution statement confessing to the murder of well-known fish vendor who lived at Rasta Corner, Sandy Bay, Clarendon.
In court Walters’ lawyer Lloyd McFarlane argued for a sentence of 15 years before parole given the social enquiry report on his client whom he said was following orders from people of ill repute.
But the judge sided with the Crown and handed Walters the minimum demanded by the prosecution.
