Residents across several St. Catherine communities are grappling with a sudden disruption to their water supply following a mechanical breakdown at the National Water Commission’s (NWC) Spring Village facility.

The state-owned utility company issued an urgent alert late Wednesday night, confirming that the failure is impacting customers in Bushy Park, Spring Village, Island Farm, Nightigale Grove, Gutters and other adjacent areas.

The alert, dispatched at 9:59 p.m. Wednesday, left many residents waking up to dry taps on Thursday morning. The NWC has not yet provided a specific timeline for the restoration of service but indicated that crews are actively assessing the extent of the mechanical issues.

The disruption comes at a critical time for the largely residential and farming communities. With the dry season in full effect, households in Island Farm and Spring Village rely heavily on the NWC’s scheduled supply for domestic use and small-scale irrigation.

The NWC is urging residents in the affected areas to conserve stored water until normal operations resume. The utility also noted that trucked water services might be deployed should repairs extend beyond a reasonable timeframe, though no such measures had been announced at press time.
