Thirty-three years old Joseph Alexander, a freelance graphic designer, left his mother’s home in Colbeck, Old Harbour to visit a friend in Spanish Town.

He did not return home that day, but such behaviour is quite the norm, Sophia Simpson said of her son. She, however, became concern over the last few days when all attempts to contact him on his mobile phone proved futile.

Simpson was now a worried mom; so yesterday she filed an official missing person report at the Spanish Town Police Station.

Simpson told Old Harbour News that Joseph “left home about 10:15” in the morning claiming he was “going to meet a friend to help him with something”. Who and where he was going to meet that ‘friend’ no one knows but Simpson said on the same day her son left home she has since learnt that he went to Spanish Town.

“Somebody saw him Monday about 4:15 pm on March Pen Road walking up and down. But the person said he (Joseph) doesn’t recognize him; so that is where I became concern,” she said.

Asked why she didn’t report him missing to the police earlier, Simpson added: “The reason why I took so long is that [week before] last week he went away and he came back Saturday. Normally when he goes away he would come back and get ready for church. This time he didn’t come back to go to church on Sunday. So that was when I started to worry. Then normally he would be in Spanish Town sometimes with his friends. But I don’t hear from him and he has a phone and a tablet.”

It is believed that Alexander, who has a two-year-old son, is experiencing mental issues, Simpson stated.

A few years ago Alexander suffered serious head injuries in a motorbike accident that almost cost him his life.

“But for couple months now he started acting up this way,” Simpson said, meaning her son would leave the house and not return until few days later.

Based on those recent observations, Simpson believes the long-term effects of his injuries sustained back then is now manifesting.

“He said he got over it, but I don’t think so,” she said. “So I took him to the hospital and he was taking medication.”

“At one point he wasn’t sleeping. He wasn’t getting no rest at all,” she added. “For the whole night him talk. So I take him to the hospital, him get him medication… and all through that him still a do him work and get him money and everything. But it look like it get worse on him and sometimes him just wander.”

Alexander was wearing a blue shirt, dark blue jeans and slippers at the time he was last seen. Anyone with information of his whereabouts must immediately contact the Spanish Town Police Station (876 984 2305); police emergency 119; the family at 876 441 3518 or the nearest police station.
