Newest Tropical Wave should concern Jamaica

At 8:00 am today, the US National Hurricane Center alerted the region to the latest tropical wave out in the Atlantic.

“A well-defined tropical wave located about 900 miles east-southeast of the Windward Islands is producing disorganized showers and thunderstorms. Some development of this disturbance will be possible during the next couple of days before upper-level winds become less conducive for further organization by Thursday. The system is expected to move westward to west-northwestward at around 15 mph,” the Miami-based weather observatory stated.

It however, noted said the system has a 20 percent chance of developing into a cyclone in the next five days.

Despite this forecast, Jamaicans should keep an eye on this one.

“Unfortunately, the U.S. National Hurricane Center has just highlighted an area east of the Caribbean for possible tropical storm or hurricane development within the next five days. Jamaicans should be on the alert just in case!” tweeted Weather Jamaica.

Danny will be the name given to the next developed storm.

According to the Meteorological Service of Jamaica, the country’s seasonal climate outlook for June-August 2021 suggests that there is a greater likelihood that the island will experience above-normal rainfall.
