Williams, a resident of Narine Lane in Old Harbour Bay, was giving a statement last Thursday, April 17, when a woman known as ‘Abigail’ stormed into the station, pulled a knife from her waist, and stabbed him in the chest in full view of law enforcement. It took the swift intervention of the officers before Abigail released her grip on Williams, who had already collapsed to the ground with the blade still lodged in his chest. Williams credits one of the officers with providing life-saving aid that helped keep him alive.
“If a never for that policeman, I probably wouldn’t make it. Him put pressure on my chest straight to the hospital and talked to me right through to keep me up… I just didn’t get his name. Mi afi big up the Old Harbour Bay patrol team still,” said Williams.
According to Williams, the events began earlier that morning, around 9:00 am, when an argument erupted between him and Abigail while they were selling by the seaside. He said she became enraged and physically attacked him. When he retaliated, Abigail and members of her family allegedly ganged up on him and began to beat him, before other fisherfolks at the scene intervened and broke up the fight.
“She tell me she afi kill me, but I didn’t know she was serious so I never believed her,” Williams told Old Harbour News from his hospital bed at Spanish Town Hospital, where he remains under treatment. “We were good at first, then I drop her company, and from then she been threatening me.”
Shaken and bruised, Williams made his way to the Old Harbour Bay police station to file a report, something he says he had done before, as Abigail had allegedly been tormenting him for weeks. That’s when tragedy struck.
His sister, Princess Williams, and a friend had accompanied him to the station but were told to remain outside. Princess, who is distraught by the incident, believes her brother deserves justice.
“The police them tell me to come back out because he is an adult. So me and my friend who work with us stand up outside, and then Abigail babyfather drive up and she run out of the car and run go in the station. By the time mi go in, the girl deh over him on the ground and him done get stab,” said Princess.
Doctors at Spanish Town Hospital revealed that the stab wound came dangerously close to his heart and nearly punctured a lung. Williams received stitches and currently has a chest tube inserted to drain fluid and prevent further complications.
Police have since confirmed that Abigail was arrested and charged in connection with the attack. Investigators have not yet released the specific charges, but sources indicate they include wounding with intent.
The incident has left residents and vendors in the usually busy Old Harbour Bay fishing community in disbelief. Many say the brazenness of the attack — especially inside a police station — has raised serious concerns about safety and police response.
One vendor, who asked not to be named, said, “If somebody can get stab up right inna di station, then nowhere no safe again.”
Police have not yet issued a full statement on the matter, but the investigation is ongoing.
