Bay View Gardens resident Antonett Green recently shared video footages with Old Harbour News of last year’s flooding that marooned many persons in the community.

The current status of storm drains and gullies in the area is more than cause for concern as they are overgrown with wild vegetation as well as garbage due to poor disposal habits by people.

“So if rain start to fall now God help us because it (the gully) is all bush,” she said. "I am so worried in this hurricane season."

"I called (Member of Parliament) Mr (Everald) Warmington's office and told them about the (drain needs) cleaning," Green added.

A few days ago the government announced it is activating its flood mitigation programme across the island in an effort to limit the impact of the impending disaster, an annual crisis for the state.

According to weather experts, the Atlantic hurricane season is expected to perform above normal with 12 of 20 named storms likely to become hurricanes.
