Thirty-four primary institutions – inclusive of prep and primary schools – will compete throughout the next five months until the grand finale on June 21.
Hope Valley Experimental Primary are the defending champions.
Last year semi-finalist Monsignor Colin Bryan Prep from Old Harbour, St Catherine are among the title challengers to watch this season.
Coach and teacher Ramona Cummings believes the team has a good chance with Danae Hamilton and Tahlia McCalla returning from last season.
On opening day, February 14, the moot was ‘GSAT should not be abolished’.
Guest speaker at the launch was Nigerian High Commissioner to Jamaica Her Excellency Janet Olisa, who lauded the organisers for the decades old competition, urged debaters to embrace the importance of research and to develop the habit of respecting the opinion of others.
