PHOTOS: Comrades hail Ruddy Lawson at vigil
Lawson, 80 served as member of parliament for St Catherine South West during the periods of 1976-1980, 1989-93 and 1993-97 before retiring from representational politics.
He died June 8 at the Port Antonio Hospital after a prolong illness.
Several high profile party figures came out at S-Mart at Gutters in the constituency to support and honour the elder statesman of the party.
Among them were party vice president Phillip Paulwell; former member of parliament Jennifer Edwards, who has the distinction of defeating Evarald Warmington in the 1997 general elections; PNP councillor for the Greendale Division and Mayor of Spanish Town Norman Scott, among others.
The vigil was organised by interim chairman of the PNP’s St Catherine South West Dr Kurt Waul, whose position is expected to be formalised during the party’s annual constituency conference in July.
