The affected areas are New Harbour Village IV, Presidential Estate, The Aviary Housing Scheme, Bodles Research Centre, Newport Genetics; Bodles Crescent, Port Esquivel, Hi-Pro Feeds Factory, Freetown, Longsville Park Housing Scheme, Toby Heights, Salt River Road, Palmetto Meadows, Palmetto Pen, Palmetto Gardens, Rosewell Road, Sandy Bay and Nineteen Mile.

The planned maintenance outage, the Jamaica Public Service (JPS) said is necessary to ensure the reliability of its service.

“We are aware that these are unusual times, but we are committed to serving you consistently.  Unfortunately, this may include carrying out planned outages to conduct critical repairs or maintenance tasks, in order to ensure that you do not become inconvenienced further down the line by equipment failure, or any such event,” it stated in a public advisory to its customers.

“We therefore ask you to bear with us – we appreciate that at this time, this may be challenging for you and your household. But we must emphasize that this is to prevent serious challenges with your power supply down the road.”

Prior to this latest advisory the JPS has warned that the island may experience a disruption in electricity supply caused by a second Saharan Dust wave entering the Caribbean this week.

It noted, however, that its emergency crew is on standby to restore normal service should such a possibility occur.

“Again, we appreciate that these are unusual times, and we apologise for the inconvenience caused by this outage,” the company said. “It is of a critical nature and we did not make the decision lightly.  We will certainly make every effort to restore power to the affected areas in the shortest possible time.”
