The police have positively identified the man who was yesterday fatally shot during a confrontation with officers assigned to the Old Harbour Police Station.
He is Alexander Patrick George Williams, a 29-year-old unemployed resident of Marverly Avenue, Kingston 10.
The positive identification of the deceased also cleared up unfounded speculation that the police had fatally shot a man of unsound mind who is well known from Orange Lane, Church Pen.
According to the facts now established by the police, about 3:35 am a three-man police team responded to information received about a man firing shots along East Street and William Place intersection at KG’s Hardware
Upon reaching the location the police say they spotted a man fitting the description they had received.
It is alleged that the suspect pulled a firearm “from his jacket” and pointed it towards the cops, who opened gunfire at him.
He died on the spot, while clutching a browning single action pistol containing five rounds. The serial number of the illegal weapon was erased.
At this moment investigators are still collating background information on the deceased, who Old Harbour News understands was visiting relatives at William Place when he met his demised.
As is now standard procedure, the internal investigative arms of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) and the Independent Commission (INDECOM) have launched separate investigation into the matter.
