A police officer was shot dead last night in an inner-city enclave off Maxfield Avenue known as Frog City.

The deceased constable is Brian Martin who is assigned to the St Andrew Central Police Division.

Preliminary information is that Martin and four other persons were in attendance at a wake when he was hit by gunshots in the face.

The other persons were also shot.

They were rushed to the hospital were Constable Martin died while being treated.

The others remained hospitalized.

It is not clear if Constable Martin was the target.

As police high command try to gather as much facts as possible around the fatal incident, the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) issued a brief statement.

“The Jamaica Constabulary Force is saddened at the killing of Police Constable Brian Martin, 22, who was assigned to Half-Way-Tree Police Station on Saturday, October 15 on Ricketts Avenue, Kingston 13. Four other persons, including a 10-year-old, was (sic) also injured in the incident,” the statement read.
