Participants can take early advantage of this process, said Ewan Scott of the organising committee, though they will still facilitate registration on the day of the event.

Last staged in December 2019 due to the covid-19 pandemic, the event makes a return on January 1, 2023 with athletes slated to face the starter’s gun at 4:00 pm.

Entry fee is $500.

This latest edition will be the 27th staging of the event and is the first time it will be held since the death of founder Neville Myton.

Olympian Myton, a native of Old Harbour Bay and former student of Old Harbour Bay Primary and Excelsior High School, died in May 2021 at age 74.

Fittingly in his honour, the organizing committee took the decision to rebrand the event which will now be referred to as the Old Harbour Bay Neville Myton 5K.

With the pandemic placing a pause on almost every event during the last two years, organisers are hoping for a major turn out and hopefully come close to or maybe surpass the record 112 runners who competed at the 26th edition.

Church Pen native Henry Thomas of UCT Steppas track club is the defending champion in the men’s category while Jodian Campbell, who was only 16 years old and representing Hydel High School, took the female title last time out.
