St Catherine South cops recover illegal gun
During a snap raid yesterday about 8:30 pm in the vicinity of Gortuca in Portmore, the police recovered a 9mm Browning pistol with a magazine.
Acting on intelligence, a police team swooped down on an open lot where three men were observed acting suspiciously.
The men ran upon the approach of the police, one dropping a black bag in the process.
The bag was searched and the illegal weapon and magazine discovered.
All three suspects managed to escape, however.
Head of the St Catherine South Police Division SSP Christopher Phillips, later said:
"The St Catherine South Police continues with the increased joint military operations across the division as part of the surge operational activities taking place across the island. The main efforts across the division include targeted raids which are in pursuit of wanted men, persons of interest and to seize illegal firearms and drugs."
The senior crime fighter stated further that similar operations will continue across the division which covers Old Harbour and Central Village, to achieve and maintain their objectives set out before them.
