Suspect linked to death of Old Harbour teenage mother eludes police dragnet
Dawkins, 22, was initially listed as a person of interest following last Friday’s gruesome find in a yard at Patrick Street, Old Harbour where he and other family members reside.
The development follows further probe into the homicide after forensic specialists combed through one of the houses on the premises and detected trails of bloodstain leading towards the exit.
Investigators have since released images of Dawkins, who they say managed to escape a police dragnet Wednesday morning in Spring Village.
As the investigation gathers steam it is believed the police now have sufficient evidence to charge Dawkins, one officer told Old Harbour News.
Last Saturday the partially decomposed body of a female was removed from a shallow grave by scene of crime experts, 24 hours after the police were alerted by residents.
Family members and the police are strongly of the opinion that the body is that of Allen, however, formal confirmation of its identity is yet to be determined pending a DNA analysis.
Allen, who has a 19-month-old baby girl with Dawkins, was last seen on September 7 when she visited her grandmother in Patrick Street.
Both Allen and Dawkins are natives of the community and grew up less than 10 metres away from each other, Old Harbour News understands. The two, it is said, got involved in an intimate relationship which overtime became abusive.
Dawkins was also last seen by relatives on September 7, the police said.
On Wednesday morning investigators, acting on intelligence, went to a premises in Spring Village where they believe their main suspect was hiding out. But he eluded them just before the police arrived.
The police are urging members of the public with information of Dawkins whereabouts to contact the Old Harbour Police Station (876-983-2255), police emergency 119 or the nearest police station.
