Three in custody after Old Harbour store break-in
According to the police, about 3:00 am Tuesday, three men aboard a blue Mitsubishi motor car were stopped and searched by officers on duty along upper South Street, Old Harbour.
During the search of the vehicle the police found a steel cutter, a safe and an undetermined sum of cash.
Pressed by the officers to explain how they come about the items discovered the men provided unsatisfactory explanations that further raised the police’s suspicion about their true motives.
They were then taken into custody on suspicion of being in possession of stolen properties.
Two of the three men are from a Kingston 13 address, while the other man who was driving the vehicle at the time is from the community of Spring Village here in the Old Harbour region.
Hours later in the morning the police received a larceny report from the owner of ONS Electrical & Plumbing Supplies.
The businessman filed a complaint when he turned up at his 5 South Street establishment and observed that crooks had cut open his front grill, removed a safe as well as cash.
The safe found in the possession of the three men now in police custody is said to belong to the businessman who has claimed that he is the owner of the item.
The accused men remain in custody pending formal charges.
