At York Park, the headquarters of the Jamaica Fire Brigade, a minute’s silence was observed by Henry’s colleagues, a video of which was shared on its social media page.

Accompanying the video, the Jamaica Fire Brigade wrote: “The bells tolled as our hearts grieved, the first fatal crash reported in 2020 and we lost our brother firefighter Sheldon Henry.

Condolences to his family, friends, colleagues, coworkers and everyone in mourning at this time. We pray for your strength. May his soul rest in peace.”

According to reports, 34-year-old Henry, who has been a firefighter since 2012, left the Old Harbour Fire Station for his home in St John’s Road, Spanish Town.

However, while in the vicinity of McCook Pen, he overtook a line of vehicles but failed to maneuver his way back inline before colliding into an oncoming vehicle. Speeding is said to be main cause of the deadly crash.

Henry was rushed to the Spanish Town Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Reacting to the sad news one of Henry’s colleagues penned: “It’s heartrending hearing this news, but you were a great friend. Sleep on my friend.”

Another firefighter scribed: “Prayers for our fellow firefighter brother and his family and friends. God bless you. RIP brother. We will take over your watch from here.”

Many are still trying to come to terms with the news, with one friend stating: “All now it’s like I can’t come to terms with his death. Can’t believe this at all. RIP to a great role model.”

Colleagues have also created another special video reminiscing on the life of Henry, who was loved and respected by those who got to know him personally.
