VIDEO: Daughter honours late Old Harbour mother with legacy charity
A year ago her daughter Andrea Chang, following discussion with her siblings and other family members, launched the Yvonne Castle Foundation to honour a woman who in their eyes and that of the community, was an extra-ordinary human being with a heart of gold.
During the week when Jamaicans home and abroad celebrated Emancipation and Independence days – arguably the two most important holidays for the nation, Chang and family marked the festivities with the second staging of the Yvonne Castle Foundation back-to-school treat at the family home on Lafe Avenue where Castle spent most of her adult years raising her children, as well as those who are not born to her.
A sea of children, and parents too, quickly blanketed the roadway and sidewalks, as they were feted to food, music and off course well-needed school items ahead of the upcoming academic school year.
Chang and others spoke of the immense impact the late Old Harbour mother had on their upbringing and the importance of the back-to-school treat and plans to make it bigger and better each year.
