Video footage tells telling tale of fatal fight
Last Thursday about 12:50pm Hoshane Hibbert, 30 years old, taxi driver of School Lane, Seaforth, St. Thomas died in hospital while undergoing treatment after he was stabbed by 39-year-old suspect Mario Downer, alias ‘Short Man’, a vendor of Retreat, Morant Bay, St. Thomas.
Preliminary reports are that both men were at Rum Store Plaza, Church Street, Morant Bay, in the vicinity Almond Tree Hide Out when an argument developed between them.
“Knives were brought into play and suspect received slight injuries to his right upper arm and left shoulder while he used a ratchet knife to stab the victim to the left abdomen and back of left shoulder,” the police report stated.
Hibbert collapsed to the ground, before Downer left the scene and went to the Morant Bay Police Station where he reported the incident. He was taken into custody, while a ratchet knife, believed to be the weapon used to stab the victim, was taken from by the police.
Hibbert was transported to the Princess Margaret Hospital where he died as doctors tried desperately to save his life.
However, CCTV footage retrieved tells a telling tale of what perhaps, could have or should have been done to prevent the loss of a life and the possible long incarceration of another.
