We are not selling lands in Old Harbour
In a release this afternoon the NLA stated: “The National Land Agency/Commissioner of Lands is advising the public that it has not issued any publication and or statements that lands are available for sale within the Old Harbour, St. Catherine area, and or its environs.”
Old Harbour News understands that word has been slowly spreading on the ground that residential lots in the farmland of Thetford in the district of Church Pen are available for sale via the NLA.
But the NLA said this is not true.
“The National Land Agency/Commissioner of Lands is therefore advising potential investors to do their due diligence before engaging in any arrangement for these lands, or any other properties.
“When lands and or properties are available for sale or divestment by the National Land Agency/Commissioner of Lands, they are advertised on the agency's website at: www.nla.gov.jm, in the newspaper, and at various locations within locality to the land or property to include: post offices, police stations, tax offices, etc.
“The National Land Agency/Commissioner of Land urges members of the public to exercise vigilance, and contact the agency if they have queries about any land or property.”
When contacted this afternoon, Nicole Hayles, who is manager of marketing and public relations at the NLA, said the agency is acting out of an abundance of caution by advising the public of the correct steps to take in acquiring land through the state agent.
