GasPro launches safer cylinder
GasPro Plus is made of translucent, high-density polymeric and other advanced material, which is also used in the defence and space technology industries.
“Safety is paramount within the gas industry, and so we went ahead with the bold move to introduce this safe yet innovative and aesthetically pleasing cooking gas cylinder,” said Rohan Ambersley, chief executive officer of Massy Gas Product Ltd. “The composite cylinder is lighter and weighs approximately 50 percent of the weight of a metal cylinder making it easier for the dealers and home users to lift.”
Ambersley revealed that the Bureau of Standard Jamaica has given its approval for the importation of the composites as they are comfortable with the high quality of construction, production, and the comprehensive testing that they undergo.
“We operate our business based on international standards and this cylinder is internationally tested and strongly regarded in all the markets in which it is traded. It brings significant benefit to the Jamaican consumer including the ability to see the gas levels and to comfortably carry the cylinder. In addition, there is no rust so GasPro Plus is an excellent cylinder to have in your home,” he said.
The composite cylinder offers unique benefits to the consumer, including allowing them to assess their gas levels. This allows the better planning of next purchases as consumers often complain of cylinders finishing in the middle of preparing dinner, particularly on Sundays.
The composite cylinder, though new to the island, has been used for many years in countries such as the UK, France, Canada, the USA, India and Caribbean neighbours such as Barbados and Guyana.
Safe in Snug Areas
The composite cylinder is also convenient for small-space living.
“Customers who currently live in apartment complexes are sometimes forced to purchase electric stoves and to use a more expensive energy source for cooking,” Ambersley explained. The GasPro Plus cylinder is a perfect solution as even if there is a fire, the composite cylinder will not explode, making it safer than the metal containers and suitable for use in apartments.
“In the event of a fire, the composite cylinder holding the fuel is designed to melt and the gas will seep out and burn versus the metal cylinder, which is likely to build up pressure and explode. The composite cylinder by design eliminates this risk. While the material is lightweight, there is no compromise with strength” Ambersley quipped.
The composite cylinders, available in 25 and 30 pounds, are rigorously tested to international standards with various testing parameters including cycle test, drop and flaw tests.
GasPro Plus is versatile and can also be utilised for forklifts, on yachts and at barbecues.
“GasPro is proud to bring innovation to the Jamaican gas market and is further evidence that we are indeed the ‘Gas Professionals’,” Ambersley added.
