Nine-year-old hangs himself
Dead is Jason Grant of Mason Hall, St Mary whose body was seen hanging in his bedroom about seven o’clock yesterday evening.
According to a preliminary report by the police, Jaden, who is a student of Port Maria Prep School, was denied “permission to play” by his father. Jaden then “asked for a snack, got the snack and went to his bedroom”.
“Mr. Grant was concerned of not hearing Jaden. Hence he went to his bedroom where he saw Jaden hanging from a bath towel which was tied around his neck and to the grill of his bedroom window,” the police reported.
The shocking incident has left the family devastated. The community and school are also in shock and disbelief.
Sheldon Kidd, Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) councillor for the St Mary Oracabessa Division said: “I want to express my deepest regret and empathy to Mr. Phillip Grant and his wife Mrs. Yasheka Blackwood-Grant in relation to the death of your only child. I know that your pain is overwhelming, I am profoundly sorry that this has happened and is praying for you. May God strengthen you during this period of bereavement.”
