The 14-day State of Emergency (SOE) for the St Catherine South Police Division will not be extended, according to Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Romario Rankin, head of the Old Harbour subdivision.

However, while the SOE is being lifted, a 48-hour curfew has been imposed in southwest St Catherine, effective until February 6. The curfew will be in place from 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM on both days, ASP Rankin confirmed.

For the past three weeks, St Catherine South has been under heightened security measures following a surge in major crimes, particularly murders. These measures have yielded positive results, with recent data showing a decline in homicides compared to the same period last year.

Security forces have focused their efforts along the island’s south coast, implementing curfews between Mandeville and Kingston – an area that accounts for approximately 60% of the population.
