The ‘Device for Every Child’ initiative, a programme of the Jamaica Diaspora Taskforce Action Network (JDTAN) announced today it shipped another 1,400 tablets to the island.
The latest shipment was made possible in large parts by Jamaica's Consul General to New York, Alison Wilson who made it a key project for her office since the initiative was announced.
“These devices were sent to underserved students in Jamaica and plans are already in progress to dispatch a fifth shipment within the next three weeks,” said JDTAN’s chairman, Leo Gilling in an update.
Gilling said CG Wilson stated that the “initiative would not have been possible without the support of our corporate sponsors – our #dearfriendsofJamaica and our #JamaicanDiaspora, who have given generously to ensure that this vision of ‘leaving no Jamaican student behind’, is a reality”.
“There are approximately 600,000 students in Jamaica. Approximately a quarter of the target student population has been supported so let’s continue to assist,” Gilling added.
“My mom always said ‘one, one cocoa full basket’. Let us give CG Wilson a chance to fill another basket. Success breeds success.”
He urges Jamaicans in the Diaspora to pledge their support by donating a “device or two, gently used devices are also accepted”.
