Aspiring doctor Annia Howlett off to St Jago High
But such a scene evokes the opposite reaction in her little daughter Annia Howlett, who aspires to be a medical doctor in the future.
This was revealed to Old Harbour News in an interview after Howlett secured a berth at St Jago High following her successful performance in the Primary Exit Profile (PEP) exam.
The recent Old Harbour Primary graduate received a placement score of 325.6 or 93% in the annual traditional exam for primary education students.
Having secured a seat of her preferred choice at the famed Monk Street institution in Spanish Town, Howlett told Old Harbour News that the result "makes me feel proud of myself".
It’s the first major hurdle cleared in her quest to pursue a career in medicine.
"I would love to become a doctor," Annia declared.
Annia has a passion for helping people who are sick. And this passion has been further fueled when she joined the Red Cross club at Old Harbour Primary.
In our little chat over the phone Gordon said Annia's desire to become a doctor was evident from early.
"She's very caring and loving," Gordon said.
"She has two bigger brothers and when they get a cut no matter how big it is, while I'll be running from the cut she will attempt to get it dressed.
"This is from she has been attending basic school, she just always have that intention to become a doctor. Every Career Day I'll have to buy her, her doctor suit and doctor sets."
It's the sort of ambition that keeps the Marlie Acres mother motivated to do everything in her power to hopefully one day see her daughter's dream become a reality.
When Annia got the result that she will be matriculating to her first choice St Jago High, Gordon said she had an instant reaction she will never forget.
“I cried tears of joy, my body was filled with goose bumps,” she said recalling the experience.
So excited she had an instant headache, she said, before adding “it didn't surprise me because I know she could do it. Annia pays much attention in her work from basic school up until now. And if she get work to do and she cannot do it she cry.”
Since the results have been out, Gordon said she has been getting a lot of commendations from the whole community and even those from abroad.
She admitted to being fearful about her daughter’s venture into a new phase of her life, but believes “with prayer and God's help everything will work out”.
Academics aside, Annia is thinking also about another testing herself in another area - Track and field.
And with the excellent programme at St Jago, and such a tremendous attitude and work ethic, it’s certainly not beyond her capacity.
