Kerr, who has a passion for helping individuals excel to their fullest potential, was the school’s campus registrar, prior to her appointment.

With a Doctor of Education (EdD) in Instructional Leadership from Nova Southeastern University, her strong business development professional skills matched with her passion for entrepreneurship made her an ideal candidate for the top position.

“It has been a world wind experience for me since joining the institution. I started in the position of campus registrar, and by the time I started settling in I began acting in the capacity of president, while the former president was on leave,” Kerr told Old Harbour News in an interview.

With her objectives of contributing to the improvement of the country’s education system, Kerr was shortlisted from a number of candidates to fill the position.

With intimate knowledge of the intricacies of the school’s environment, Kerr has developed a number of strategies to ensure the continued viability of the institution and to improve partnerships with local and international stakeholders.

“We are looking at a number of initiatives to solve some of our challenges. Some of these include ensuring that all our current and prospective students have access to all our progammes online, and partnering with our Caribbean, and other overseas-based institutions to forge and build alliances that will be beneficial to our students and the school,” Kerr said.

Since its inception in 1986, the Caribbean Graduate School of Theology has equipped more than 700 graduates. Today, they are scattered in many career paths, including, banking, academia, law, counselling, management and a variety of Christian ministries. Although most alumni are resident in Jamaica, others can be found throughout the Caribbean, North America and Europe.

“Our programmes are designed with cultural context in view. This exposure ensures relevance and enables graduates to be better equipped to serve in the region,” she said.

Kerr is personally committed to quality adult education and in addition to ensuring accreditation from local and international professional bodies, she will continue to improve on systems already in place to ensure and to maintain high academic standards.
