March 8 is that day when the world celebrates the role of women, shining the light for more to be done to advance its agenda.
While there still remain a myriad of issues confronting the rights and fundamental role of women, President of the South St Catherine Chamber of Commerce, Treacha Reid believes women need to be more supportive of other women.
In her message to the business community along this southern belt of the Jamaican coast, the chamber president said: “Old Harbour is made up of so many incredible women, and so many amazing changes in our town are being made by women who have individually and collectively contributed to the growth and development of this town.

“As women we are impacting lives in great ways. Today, I want to remind all of us of how strong we are. Despite being impacted significantly by COVID-19 in 2020, with our businesses and family lives affected , we did not give up and we’ve manage to hold it together. Female leaders have been praised for their roles in response to COVID-19, International Women’s Day 2021 focuses on the role women can play in ‘building back better’, our world.

“Though the pandemic is still rampant and we are not sure when things will return to normal, we cannot give up!  As women, business leaders must continue to be resilient as we continue to fight COVID-19. Being mentally strong is a must in these times.

“The leadership of a woman is not just about how we carry ourselves, it is not about being popular, and it is definitely not about earning the most money. It is about our character. It is being good examples for others while balancing the need to take good care of ourselves.

“We all have this strength within us, and it is very important that we never forget this.

So when you are going through rough times or simply need to remember how awesome you are, take a look at these four characteristics of mentally strong women:

• Confident - Confidence is a HUGE part of being mentally strong

• Productive - Our minds want to feel accomplished

• Optimistic & Positive - Mentally strong women see the glass as half full and not half- empty.

• Fear Tacklers - Mentally strong women face their fears, problems and issues.

“It is not always easy to be mentally strong. I will say that we are all capable of finding the best paths for our minds. As we navigate through this pandemic we must possess these four characteristics. Let’s all work together to remind each other how mentally strong we are, and let’s support each other in our individual journey by lifting each other up and not belittling others.

“Let us pray for and encourage each other as this is the best way to advocate for the concept of “women leaders supporting women leaders” along with our overall theme of women in leadership. It all starts right here! Let’s help each other achieve a future in COVID-19.”
