DAILY DEVOTION: Well-digger for God | Isaac Pt.1
There are many people who don't want to step out for God because they are afraid to let God down. Maybe they have tried and failed before or have seen others failed. Well, let's see a guy who might make you say, "See what I mean! He wanted his time to bat and he failed, so why should I go out." The reason is, if you go, failure is not the only alternative, but if you stay back you can NEVER win!
Isaac received the Abrahamic charge from God and went forth to Gerar. There, he panicked and made the same mistake his father had made years before. He lied that his wife was his sister, in order to safe-guard his life. He was spotted playing with his wife in an "unsisterly" way and was reprimanded by the king. What an embarrassment for the should-be-man-of-God.
This would be a sad story if it ended there, and so would ours. Don’t let defeat or even being afraid to try, be the final chapter of your life. Get up and go again, ask for another swing of that bat. Our key verse for today tells us that Isaac went straight into farming and the blessings of God were all over him. His yield was far more than encouraging.
The thing for us to do is not to let past failures by yourself or others define your present efforts negatively. God can and will pick up and rebuild broken vessels. We can shine, even if we've failed or never shone before. Like Well-Digger Isaac, your best days are still ahead of you.
Shalom.
