Giancarlo Sharpe tops Marlie Mount’s PEP list
Even though there was never any doubt that he would have aced the traditional school leaving exam for primary students, the proverbial icing on the cake was the fact that he had attained the highest score for his now alma mater Marlie Mount Primary and Infant School.
He recorded an impressive 337.8 placement score or 96.5% to edge a competitive field in which only three percentage points separated the top five.
A place at the revered St Jago High is also a dream come true for the 12-year-old boy whose ambition in life is to become a medical doctor.
His dad Garrett Sharpe, who has been instrumental in his son's success so far, was elated.
"Giancarlo is a very quiet and brilliant young man. He is very respectful and disciplined.
"Yes, Giancarlo has always been a top performing student even before attending Marlie.
"To be very honest, I am very proud of his achievement in PEP, it however didn't come as any surprise as he has been doing extremely well from the grade four sitting of the exam," the elder Sharpe told Old Harbour News.
"Yes as I said before I am extremely proud of him and will continue to support him in his academic and overall development.
"I ensure that Giancarlo is not distracted by not having the resources he needs to perform well in school. So because of that he has all he needs and more."
Reflecting on the day he received the good news, Giancarlo said: "The day the PEP results came out, I was at home on the computer when my dad called and told me that I passed for St.Jago High and congratulated me. I was very happy and excited especially because I was the top performer at my school."
"I am very happy that I will be attending St. Jago High School it's a very good all-round school," added the cub scout who also represented Marlie Mount in the arts.
"I like the fact that St. Jago High is one of the best schools in Jamaica. They are the number one school in terms of their all-round offerings. Academics, sports, performing arts and so on. It will give me a very good opportunity to develop into an all rounded young man."
The senior Sharpe, said he expects his son to continue blaze a path of excellence in all facets of his development when his high school journey begins at Monk Street, covid19 notwithstanding.
"My expectations are basically to see him continue to do well and to be developed not only academically but in an all rounded way, which is one of the reasons St. Jago was selected as his first choice," Mr Sharpe said.
