Good Hope Primary staged fun-filled virtual show for heroes
Because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic Heroes Day celebrations were done virtually.
In an interview with Old Harbour News Latayna Chambers, a teacher at Good Hope Primary and Infant School, describes their virtual event as fabulous.
"When the event was done face-to-face it has always been a great experience. It being online I thought that a lot of children and their parents would have been withdrawn but they have turned out in their numbers", said Chambers
A lot of fun-filled activities were done by the school leading into the national holiday, recognised October 18.
"From Monday to Wednesday it was cultural week so we would have sent the different heroes to them and also videos for them to watch on Monday and Tuesday.
"After watching the videos they would give a short summary of what they have learnt. This activity was done using WhatsApp and Google Meet and this involves students from Infant Two to Grade Six,” Chambers, the chief organiser of the virtual festival, explained.
On Wednesday the students were asked to choose a specific hero and dress as that hero while others wrote poems and create posters. With the help of their parents this activity was very successful.
Chamber said: "A concert was held where two teachers performed. They also sang some festival songs and did some trivia questions.
"In the segment of dressing as national heroes, students got very creative and went into the bushes to take pictures of nanny and her tribe. The parents were also very interested in this activity they also dressed up and took pictures."
If school doesn't return to face-to-face classes, Chambers said she knows that next year national Heroes Day celebration will be better because this year everyone came out in their numbers for the virtual event.
