But the state department did not reveal the name of the establishment following an inspection yesterday.

The assessment comes in the wake of a viral video circulating on social media platforms highlighting the unsanitary state of the supermarket’s warehouse operated by Chinese nationals.

Old Harbour News cannot verify the authenticity of the video being circulated despite making contact with the individual believed to be the originator of the content.

In the video, the narrator claimed to be an employee of the supermarket who was allegedly fired after refusing to make available to the public, goods purported to be contaminated by rodents and other insects.

Contacted by Old Harbour News through a mutual source, the alleged former employee said he has been receiving threats since releasing the video. He has not reported those threats to the police however.

Health officials’ attention were brought to the video and they visited the location at Glendon Court Plaza yesterday, Old Harbour News can report.

It is further understood that the facility was closed temporarily to facilitate an inspection by a team of health inspectors.

Subsequently a representative at the St Catherine Health Department told Old Harbour News that an investigation was carried out “at a supermarket in Old Harbour and some goods to include flour was confiscated due to evidence of rat urine and droppings”.

Since this morning Old Harbour residents informed the community’s local news media that the supermarket appeared open for business with one reader stating that they went inside and utilized its cambio service.
