Higgs scores 30 points to help Old Harbour overcome Calabar

Six-foot five-inch guard Marcus Higgs was in scintillating form in helping Old Harbour overcome Calabar 71-63 in the ISSA Under-19 Basketball at the Old Harbour Church of Christ Court today.

Higgs, playing as a centre and small forward during this game, registered a game and season high 30 points, while snatching 10 rebounds, as the hosts are now three from four this season in Southern Conference Zone A.

Derjean Royal supported Higgs, the team captain, with nine points, four rebounds, three steals and two assists in a game that saw Old Harbour lead in all quarters.

Shavarne Beech was Calabar’s best player on the day, bagging 21 points, five assists and five steals.

Over in Zone B in the Southern Conference, Kingston College defeated St George’s College 55-36, St Jago turned back Hydel 41-18, Wolmer’s Boys recorded a 57-48 victory over Meadowbrook, while Excelsior overcame St Andrew Technical 54-47.

In under-16 action, Old Harbour defeated Calabar 24-14, while in the other zone Campion narrowly got by Jamaica College 64-59, St George’s College defeated North Street neighbours Kingston College 53-37, Bridgeport edged hosts St Jago 24-23, Excelsior beat Vauxhall 33-19 and Wolmer’s had a close fought 44-42 win over Meadowbrook.
