Innswood Old Boys, Basement declared joint champions after rain abandoned final
Only 29.5 overs were bowled after Basement, playing in only their second final of the competition, won the toss and inserted defending champions Innswood Old Boys to bat.
Innswood, four-time winners, were stuttering at 129-7 in the 40-over match after Carlos Brown (41) and Andrew Davis (30) departed against the bowling of veteran player and captain Akbar Moodie, who bagged five wickets for 51 runs.
However, the rains would deny spectators of witnessing what seemingly was going to be an exciting final given all that had transpired in the semi-final.
Passagefort had defeated Old Harbour in their semi-final, but both teams were eliminated from the competition by the parish’s governing cricket body for breaching the elite player eligibility rule.
The organisers then took the decision to promote Basement to the final despite they had suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of Innswood in their semi-final clash.
This is only the second time joint winners have been declared in the history of the competition. The other being the 2008 final between Old Harbour CC and Dela Vega.
