Anne-Marie Bishop (right) and Cardel Caszely (left) of the Rotary Club of Ocho Rios donate masks and hand sanitizers to the St Catherine North Police Division.
Donations were made to numerous police stations by Anne-Marie Bishop, principal director of Bishop Law & Associates.
The barrister and attorney-at-law said given its close relationship with police and considering branches of its legal firm are located in Portmore and Ocho Rios they felt compelled to assist the constabulary.
“The decision to donate the masks to the Jamaica Constabulary Force was easy. As an attorney-at-law and a Rotarian, I work directly and indirectly with police officers, through the court system and police station visits,” she said.
“Over the past 21 years, I have worked in several parishes throughout Jamaica. I decided to focus on specific police stations across five parishes, namely St Catherine, St Ann, St Mary and Portland. So far, we distributed masks to St Catherine North, St Catherine South Divisions and St Ann.”
Since the initiative, the Karen Dale Foundation, founded by a Jamaican living in the United States of America, has partnered with the Rotary Club of Ocho Rios of which Bishop is the president. The partnership has further strengthened the initiative, allowing the team to broaden its reach in donating additional masks hand sanitizers to the police divisions of St Catherine North and St Catherine South; as well as St Ann, St Mary and Portland.
“Our police officers are overwhelmed and they undergo a lot of stress. Their safety and ours is even more crucial at this time,” said the experienced lawyer, who have also donated over 70 care packages to senior citizens across four parishes since the first COVID-19 case was declared on the island.
The kind gesture was well received by the police who not only risk their lives fighting crime on a daily basis but also their own health to protect the population.
