JPS Foundation announces US$10,000 scholarship for electrical engineering student
Since 2016, the JPS Foundation has been sponsoring the sitting of the CSEC Industrial Technology (Electrical) exam, and eligible students for the scholarship will be drawn from these cohorts from 2018, moving forward.
Speaking at the ceremony, the President and Board Member of the JPS Foundation, said: “You are the ones who are going to innovate, create new ways of doing things, challenge the status quo, come up with solutions to problems that we don’t know about yet and make a difference,” as he addressed the cohort of top performers. Each of the top 20 performers in the subject received a bursary of $20,000 and a trophy, in recognition of their outstanding achievements. The high schools represented at the ceremony were Herbert Morrison Technical High School, Ardenne High School, Campion College, Jose Marti Technical High, Knox College and St. George’s College.
Minister of Science, Energy and Technology Fayval Williams, keynote speaker at the event told the audience: “I must applaud the JPS Foundation as it continues to contribute to national development through tangible investments in the educational pursuit of our nation’s children.”
She continued: “As a parent, I am all too familiar with the sacrifices that are sometimes made to allow our children to pursue their academic dreams and so I commend the Foundation. This investment in the education of our youth, is an investment in Jamaica.”
Since 2016, the JPS Foundation has covered the cost of sitting the CSEC Industrial Technology (Electrical) for 1,355 students across the island. The JPS Foundation pledges to “Improve lives and empower Jamaicans through charitable development projects in Energy Education, Conservation and Innovation” and has been implementing a number of programs in an effort to fulfil these goals and contribute to the growth of Jamaican youths.
